A musical show that teaches students how to preserve our valuable natural resources

|
A high energy K-6 school assembly (or family festival show) which uses music and audience participation to teach students about our valuable natural resources and the reason WHY we should reduce, reuse and recycle.
"The shows were all fantastic. I was impressed by your ability to capture the kindergartners in your green message and that you had them engaged, laughing and learning all at the same time....then you stepped it up for the older kids and they too were engaged, etc. It was all wonderful."
~Amy Harley, Assembly Coordinator

Teacher instructions for student art project | School Assembly Description:
Shows That Teach founder and performer Mark Beckwith (or veteran performer Michael "Tuba" Heatherton) use song and audience participation to teach and inspire K-6 students on the subject of recycling and preserving our valuable natural resources.
Prior to the assembly date, teachers may have their students illustrate scientific and environmentally-themed words which will be sung at the assembly. These words are grade-appropriate, such as "bird" and "tree" for Kindergarteners, advancing to more sophisticated words and phrases like "photosynthesis" and "states of matter" for the upper grades. Not only will this art project will help the students effectively connect with these concepts, but it will also be a thrill for students to see their art accompany the show. The Singin' Green Concert is truly a fun and unique blend of science, music and art.
Our Educational Goal:
Students will understand the value of our natural resources such as water, oil, minerals and trees and will be inspired to be good citizens of Planet Earth.

| "Thank you for sharing your talents with our sixth graders. They thoroughly enjoyed your presentation. When discussing the message of the assembly with them, they were able to convey your message of conservation. Your use of music was very effective with my class.
Your presentation also helped review the sixth graders on some of the things we studied (earlier this year) about renewable and nonrenewable resources, conserving our natural resources..."

"Green" short music clip | Dept. of Ed. Science Standards connections:
- Students will learn that living things cause changes in the environment in which they live: some of these changes are detrimental to the organism or other organisms, and some are beneficial.
- Students will learn that decomposers, including many fungi, insects, and microorganisms, recycle matter from dead plants and animals.
- Students will learn that most microorganisms do not cause disease and that many are beneficial.
- Students will learn that plants use carbon dioxide (CO2) and energy from sunlight to build molecules of sugar and release oxygen.
- Students will learn that when liquid water evaporates, it turns intowater vapor in the air and can reappear as a liquid when cooled or as a solid if cooled below the freezing point of water.
- Students will learn that water vapor in the air moves from one place to another and can form fog or clouds, which are tiny droplets of water or ice, and can fall to Earth as rain, hail, sleet, or snow.
- Students will learn that the amount of fresh water located in rivers, lakes, under-ground sources, and glaciers is limited and that its availability can be extended by recycling and decreasing the use of water.

| Outdoor Events
Singin' Green Concerts is an ideal performance for outdoor events such as a festival or community concert. The slide show is not part of outdoor performances (unless the venue furnishes the screen and projector).
