ALL THAT TRASH! a musical

All That Trash!

a family musical

The musical-comedy All That Trash!  features three characters: Professor Pile (played by Mark Beckwith), Tuba (played by Michael Heatherton) and a non-speaking puppet named Polly Ethylene (operated by Mr. Beckwith), who is made from recyclable materials.

Faced with the problems of wasted natural resources and too much garbage, Professor Pile helps Tuba discover solutions such as reducing, reusing, recycling, and rethinking the future. The performers use song, humor, and audience participation to communicate and demonstrate concepts about conservation and science. An onstage video screen artistically displays photo collages.

All That Trash!
supports several of the California State Department of Education science content standards for grades K-6. In a fun way, students will learn…

  • Resources from Earth that are used in everyday life and understand that many resources can be conserved.
  • Decomposers, including many fungi, insects, and microorganisms, recycle matter from dead plants and animals.
  • The natural origin of the materials used to make common objects.
  • Living things cause changes in the environment in which they live: some of these changes are detrimental to the organism or other organisms, and some are beneficial.

The All That Trash! show has no political agenda. It is intended to entertain and educate children with facts, solid science, and common sense. Solutions and conclusions are obvious – it is better to conserve our valuable natural resources by reducing consumption and reusing products. We have a planet that is beautiful, life sustaining, and worth preserving.

Program length: approximately 50 min. for theatre performances or 40 min. for elementary school assemblies.

A music CD containing the original songs from All That Trash! and H2O, Where Do You Go? may be purchased by members of the audience at the conclusion of the performance.
